The Stepping Stones Together Program

Stepping Stones Together is a personalized beginning reading program that gives parents and educators the resources they need to teach children how to read and encourage a love of reading that will last a lifetime. The program incorporates proven literacy education techniques and child development research, which have shown the importance of parental involvement in teaching reading.

How Can I Teach My Child to Read?

Many parents understand the importance of early literacy skills but worry that they lack the tools or teaching experience to create a successful reading program for kids. By providing a wide range of customizable learning materials and a clear, easy to follow plan, Stepping Stones Together makes it possible to teach a child to read by investing as little as 15 – 20 minutes per day.

The unique bond that parents and caregivers have with children can provide support and motivation for learning that isn’t possible in a group setting. The U.S. Department of Education has acknowledged the importance of family involvement in education:

“Cognitive science research stresses the impact of the family and social environment on cognitive development and literacy acquisition of children. Parental involvement in their children’s schools influences student achievement, attendance, motivation, self-concept and behavior.”

An Affordable Reading Program

Stepping Stones Together was founded by Dr. Erika Burton, a college professor who focuses on educational research. While helping her own Kindergarten-aged daughter build reading skills, Dr. Burton realized the need that existed for fun, interactive materials that would hold a child’s interest, but also be available at a price that families could easily afford.

Stepping Stones Together was designed to make beginning reading enjoyable and affordable for all learners. Our program offers one of the best values in online reading instruction, with materials that are customizable to your child’s interests and reading level, allowing more personalization than many free or low-cost programs, but at a price that is significantly lower than many comparable reading programs.
