Test if Your Child is Ready

In order to be successful with any beginning reading program, children should have a solid grasp of a few very basic literacy skills.

Children should know the alphabet.
  • To check that your child can identify upper and lower case letters out of order, use The Alphabet Test.
Children should know letter sounds.
  • Before learning to read, a child should know the sounds most letters make. Learning the different sounds vowels can make is not necessary. The Sound Test can help determine if your child knows letter sounds.
